Healthy Study Habit
Schools and most learning tutorials are on lockdown. So it is impossible for students to reach out to their teachers physically as regards academics. It's saddening many student are used to attending tutorials or being under the guide of a teacher before they can focus well on study and passing an examination.

It is a known fact that you have little or no time left after lockdown to attend classes or tutorials before the commencement of your exam. Hence it is advisable that you make the best use of this lockdown to your advantage. There are topics you are not good at. There are syllabuses you are yet to cover. Below are some tips on how best you can prepare for your exams in this Lockdown.

1. Write down the topics under each subjects which you want to cover.

Doing this is like mapping your plan out. Writing down those topics gives you the consciousness of things you must cover, guide you from not digressing out of context and makes you know how many topics you have covered and how many you have left.

Usually, adopting the method of having to read your textbook from cover to cover isn't the best method to use at a time like this because you may get worked up and won't finish the necessary parts before you run out of time. Instead, streamline your plan to those topics you are yet to cover and make use of effective plan to finish them all.

2. Set a deadline on when to complete each topic.

The essence of working with a deadline is so you can cover all the topics you have mapped out within the stated time. Otherwise, you won't feel the urge to read up. You must be strict with yourself in meeting up the deadline.

For instance, you could say "I want to finish everything on Simultaneous Equation within three days" and see to it that you are able to meet up with this target. If you make this an habit, you are going to cover up a lot within a short range of time.

3. Embrace an effective study technique.

Most students have all the 24 hours to themselves. All you do in this period is probably some chores and then you are left alone to yourself to make use of the remaining hours. This is the time you have to use for your study and to make the study worthwhile, you have to embrace a good and consistent study technique.

Below are some ways you can stay motivated while studying.

How to stay motivated while reading.

  • Use sticky notes
  • Take 15 mins breaks
  • Use colorful pens like highlighters
  • Study from videos
  • Chat with friends about studies
  • Read instead of writing or write instead of reading
  • Change study positions.

This method works a lot for students who find it difficult to study for long hours. You don't have to choke yourself and get bored out. Relax at intervals.

4. Make use of the internet as a companion.

Your textbook is limited. One best way to learn the full scope about a topic is to go to the Internet. There are several other materials in several formats you can use to learn better.

If you stumble upon difficult topics that are difficult to comprehend, you can try watching YouTube videos, just type the topic and select which channel is best to watch from the list of options displayed to you. You are going to learn a great deal from this.

Internet is your best teacher. Make use of it to your advantage. However, while at it, ensure that you're not distracted with pop ups of chats and notifications from your social media accounts. This aspect has being a major challenge in our contemporary world.

5. Avoid concentrating on one subject than the other.

This is one of the mistakes students make. Don't fall into this trap. Don't try to unlock a thread for so long a time that you forget that there are other stones you have left unturned.

Plan your time and allocate a schedule to each subject. You can only score well when you have good scores in all your subjects and not by having a better score in one and failing in the other.

It is an understandable fact that some subjects needs more study time than the others. Yes, this is non disputable, however, ensure that you also allocate meaningful time to the rest.

6. Practice past questions.

Practise Past Questions

Practicing past questions is a good way to evaluate yourself after studying. Most students have always replaced their study time to practising past questions only. This won't help.

Past questions are meant for evaluation. I advise that you study past questions by topics and not in general. This helps you to know how good you have mastered a topic in time.

For instance, I recommend that you study past questions related to simultaneous equation after you're done with studying the topic. See to it that you are able to answer questions related to this topic before commencing the study on another.

Don't replace your textbooks with past questions, you are only deceiving yourself if you think by covering up past questions alone, you have the scope of the whole topics. That's not true.

I believe these ways would be helpful. Come out of lockdown and smash your exams. Don't forget that no one is willing to listen to the reason why you fail, but everyone is interested in how you manage to succeed when all odds were against you.
