ASUU Remains Unequivocal in her struggle Despite Payment of Withheld Salaries.

The chances of resumption for Nigerian students in various Universities under the reach of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) remains uncertain as the union has refused to back out of her struggle against FG, over the deployment of Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) in regulating the payment of her members.

ASUU is set to continue in the struggle against the deployment of IPPIS despite payment of the withheld salaries of her members. In a message to her members, the President of the Union said the FG is not doing them any favour by paying them their withheld allowances because they worked for it and it is their right entitlement. He further stated that this payment does not mean FG has withdrawn from the implementation of IPPIS on her members and so, the struggle continues.

In his statement, the president, Prof Abiodun Ogunyemi wrote; “Trustees, POs (principal officers) and ZCs (zonal coordinators): Good evening comrades. A number of our colleagues have called or sent messages to make enquiries about payment of the withheld February and March 2020 salaries of our comrades in federal universities through the rejected IPPIS platform."

“It’s clear that what government paid was rightfully earned by our members, not anything special or doing us a favour. Therefore, ASUU members have no apologies withdrawing from their accounts as appropriate.”

He further enjoined the members of the union not to be relaxed or back out from their struggle as their previous issue with the FG over resolution of outstanding issues in the February 2019 FGN/ASUU Memorandum of Action (MoA) is far from over. The struggle continues! He said.
