How long does it take to develop a vaccine?

Scientist conducts three phase of trials before getting a vaccine approved and safe for consumption. 

In phase one, small groups of people receive the trial vaccine; in phase two, it is administered to those who have characteristics similar to whom the new vaccine is intended; and in phase three, it is injected into several thousand people. Finally, researchers also analyse post-marketing data.

In the battle against COVID-19, some countries among many others have been working assiduously to come up with a cure and prevention against the novel COVID-19. While some have come to a conclusion of a remedy, some are still in the trying Phase. The World Health Organization (WHO) on Thursday through Matshidiso Moeti, WHO's regional director for Africa, called for clinical trials of Madagascar's Covid Organics, a herbal drink that is said to prevent and cure patients suffering from the novel coronavirus or COVID-19.

In response to this, the South African Minister of Health, Zweki Mkhize has shown the interest of South Africa in helping Madagascar in COVID-Orgnanics clinical trials.

University of Oxford (ChAdOx1 nCoV-19) 

In less than three months, the University of Oxford developed a vaccine with the tag ChAdOx1 nCoV-19. This vaccine is introduced to the body to combine with the genetic material of the SARS-CoV-2 which is known as the Corona virus causing COVID-19. 

This vaccine have been undergoing clinical trials and volunteers have already been injected to check how effective and safe the drug is for consumption and treatment in its Phase 1. 

Moderna (mRNA-1273) 

A biotech company based in Massachusetts, Moderna is currently developing an RNA based vaccine in collaboration with the National Institute of Allergy and infectious Diseases (NIAID). 

This vaccine has successfully undergone phase 1 trials and is about to commence its Phase 2 trials.

These and many other researches group in China, India, Germany and several other countries across the world are conducting researches and trials. All we can hope for is a quick remedy arising from a successful trial from any of the ongoing researches.
